Stuff We Do
YASO is more than the gatherings. Here is all we do at YASO
Gatherings:
Every other Saturday we have free pizza and pop and discuss life issues that matter.
Quarterly Formals:
We celebrate each season with a dance/party.
Lock Ins:
Twice a year we gather for Lock Ins in which we have a dance, eat food, watch a movie, and enjoy a giant slumber party with games.
Outings:
Somme outings may be a concert or a ballgame or laser tag. We always try to make it fun.
Society’s Forgotten Children Silent No More:
In this campaign we speak out in many ways about the things that affect our lives. Here are just a few:
- Welcome to the Real World: Once a year we invite the community to hear our stories and see how we live.
- Artistic Expression: Once a year we express our lives and situations through art, poetry, song, and dance.
- SHIELD: This is our campaign to end bullying and bullycide.
- Sexual Assault/Abuse Advocacy: With a partnership with Guardian Angel in Joliet we can prvide advocacy for victims of rape, sexual assault, and abuse.
Community Service:
We make a difference to people who need help in the community.
Scholarship Fund:
We are constantly raising money to get people in YASO an opportunity to go to school. We sell candy, raffle tickets, wash cars, host poker tournaments and anything else we can do to raise money to give us a fighting chance at life.
