Welcome to the Real World Please
When: March 5 3pm-9pm.
Where: Ministry Center 604 e 9th Street, Lockport, Il
For 2 years now there has been an innovative outreach to teens and young adults in Lockport Il. Every other week 30-60 young people gather and change each others lives and share honestly. You are invited to observe some of the challenges faced by these lovely young adults, mend their wounds, and change the real world.
From 3-6 we will have an open house serving beverages and appetizers. This is an opportunity to meet some of the youth and volunteers of YASO. From 7-9 PM there will be a demonstration in which the youth will tell their stories and invite you to be part of their story.
Please share and spread the word.
There is no cost and we hope you can make it.
Our Next YASO Gathering
Where: Ministry Center 604 e 9th Street, Lockport, Il
Topic: Sick and Dying
Special Guest: Laurie Sloan, Founder of Thanks Jordan
About the Gathering: As always, there is free pizza and pop and we encourage you to bring a friend. Cancer, Diabetes, MS, HIV, and so many others can, in the blink of an eye, change our worlds. Some people in YASO have a disease and others have a brother or sister or mother or father or someone else you care about. Suffering, watching someone suffer, or having lost someone to a disease is hard. So how do we deal with it when someone is sick or dying?
Laurie Sloan is going to share with us because she knows about this. She is the founder of Thanks Jordan which is based right in Lockport. She helps families who have children who have terminal diseases. She also knows this from a more personal level. Laurie has cancer and it changed her entire life. Please come and hear her story.
November 20th: Meeting about ‘Welcome to the Real World’
For those who do not know, welcome to the real world is an event YASO will be hosting where we will invite the community into our space and tell our stories and the stories of others who are forced into silence. There are some important things about this that need to be discussed. So on November 20th we will meet at the Ministry Center at 604 E 9th street and talk about how we want this to look, where we will have it at, and how we best tell our stories and be silent no more. This will happen at 2 PM and go on for an hour…maybe 2. Hope you can come.
